My Name is Jochen Mühlenbrink, 1980 born in Freiburg, I live and work in Germany and the Netherlands. “Reality is not a privileged phenomenon that would underlie all others; it is the scaffolding of the relationships to which every phenomenon conforms.“ Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Phenomenology of Perception.
I always liked painting and observing, my grandparents’ house was full of miraculous things to me – paintings, sculptures and books up to the ceilings. They were good friends with many artists, what also impressed me much. There wasn’t a special key moment, the curiosity just never stopped or seriously got damaged, luckily.
Also without thinking – as a visual person, I constantly investigate the colorful surface of the world. I am not only amazed that we see, but wonder why we think we see. And what makes the difference? The force begins somewhere in the periphery of everyday perception, continues in the process of painting and hopefully ends up in something unknown again, something I have never seen (this way) before.
