Harold David

PAINTER. BLUE MOUNTAINS. AUSTRALIA.

My name is Harold David, I am 58 years old and I was born in Wilmington, Ohio. I’m engaged to Andy. Two sons, Henry and Frankie. Three pets, Edie, Odie and Nate. I tap into the unknown, put on music and have faith. I apply pure automatism and invent my own universe full of marks and abstract figures. I work freely and spontaneously and I don’t take into account coherence or sense.

I’ve been painting since I was 12 . We had no money but my mother was a glamour puss. Using her left over make up I would escape as I painted on scrap pieces of paper. After a 25 year stint as a commercial and exhibiting photography I naturally found my way back to painting in 2017.

I find beauty in the chaos of our world as I escape through it. Using beautiful coloured marks I spontaneously compose large scale paintings!

MUSIC and I layer. I get lost in Pj Harvey, Pixies, Julia Jacklin, and Sonic Youth, to name a few. It informs every move. My photography left me with a good eye for composition and colour so I work with that. I love it big! Abstracts on a large scale will always stop me in my tracks.

Chaos, the state of the world. The need to make beauty from the chaos. Franz Kline, Hilma Af Klint, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg etc etc…

I built it in my back yard. Its 6×3 meters . Its black on the outside and white inside with lots of big windows. Music is aways playing and its mostly a mess. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
