The Mozambican-born artist, who lives between the Berkshires and East Hampton, travelled frequently as a child and continues to travel today because of her rich cross-cultural experience. Her paintings are like a beautiful story of the places she visits. They may seem like simple paintings, but they are meticulous and studied portraits with complex narratives. Namoda creates scenes that represent both the rural and the urban.

Her landscapes immerse us in a tropical atmosphere, where she focuses especially on the daily activities of the subjects of those scenes. And she does it in a personal and timeless way, like the photographs we see on the following pages. In a brief conversation about her travels, she told us:

“I think life inspires the work - a sensitivity. Place is secondary. The portraits and landscapes I paint are not always known. I think narrative is important, which comes through a creative and colourful inner world.”
